GFO problems

Put a new reactor on line and the gfo is clumping up and sometimes getting stuck at the top of the reactor. It is a BRS reactor with a Mag 2 pump. I have tried throttling the valve and nothing seems to work and have also tried a sponge which just gets clogged up.

Any ideas

Thanks

I was playing with my reactor all last night and I finally got it working.

The sponges do seem to get clogged quickly with crap.

Quick question. you don't run filter socks do you?

The pump must be running too hard, it's supposed to sit on the bottom of the reactor and look like it's fluid, or boiling.  It shouldn't reach the top of the reactor ever.  My guess would be too much gfo, too much flow, or maybe someone sold you foam particles instead of ferric oxide.  :)

I use filter socks sometimes but not right now no. I thought it might be to much gfo so I took some out and when I cut back the flow it does mix at the bottom but only for a couple hours then the motion is no longer there. The type of GFO is also BRS brand.
