Freshwater Algae

I’ve had my freshwater tank running for a couple weeks now. Using the same rock I had in my salt tank (which sat outside for a couple weeks). I got one rock pile/structure on each side, and one has crazy fast growing algae. Only took 1 week to reach this point.

The other one is algae free, so far. I don’t mind it, doesn’t look bad for a cichlid setup. Anybody know from their fresh days if it has the potential to take over the tank?

if you do not have live plants, easiest way to kill algae to turn off light.
It takes about 1 week to have crystal clear water and crystal clear glass.
PS. Also it's good to cover it with blanket to reduce light from bulbs and window.

That looks like you have added coral rock to your fresh water tank. It may cause you algae issues for a while until all the saltwater bacteria and organic matter has been leached out.

Turns out if you toss in a half dozen jewel cichlids, algae disappears.

Yes you can. That is what this freshy section is for. I am currently working on a planted axolotl tank. Slightly over grown at the moment.

It’s a 90g. No plecos yet, but wouldn’t mind getting green and blue phantoms, like a had years ago.
