So after looking into fish traps for a bit I decided I didn't want to pay 50$ plus tax for one so I built my own. I not a bottle one but a glass box, with a sliding door mechanism.

The last pic is off the sliding door, my plan is to glue/ silicon a string to the door and hold it until the fish goes in and then release it.

I also am going to silicone suction cups to one side to fasten the contraption to the side of the aquarium.

Any thoughts or tips are greatly appreciated !
Thanks!

The glass is from an old 10g aquarium I cut up with a 5$ glass cutter, the egg crate vent I had lying around and the silicone was 4.99$.

I also plan on dabbing silicone on any sharp edges and along the front bottom
So when the door slams shut it won't cause any damage

I know the silicone looks rough( glass cuttin does too) , I'm no pro , but it should do the job just fine I think. :)

Good idea Brandon
Be prepared with heavy duty suction cups, it will be hard to keep it at a stable height in the tank. I don't trust suction cups, they tend to fail with heavy loads. Hope you catch the devil quickly !

I'm considering attaching heavy duty elastics to the bottom of the door on either side, and then attaching that to the base, to give it extra speed when it closes, but I think I'll try gravity first, and if that little bastard gets away ill upgrade :)

Thanks for the sand paper tip, really helped and wrkd well

The trap functions great, I simply tie a piece of fishing line to the door and pull it up and let go when need be.

It's been in the tank for a couple days now, almost every fish except the 2 angels have gone in it.... I even trapped all 3 chromis at once just to see if it would work lol ....

I'm not feeding them atal and putting food in the trap, but the stupid angels don't even both with it ... Sigh

I put a piece of shrimp in the strip ( thoroughly rinsed and pre cooked)

It lasted 1 min til my 6 huge nassarius snails climbed up the glass and stole it , I put it back in and they kept takin it. Those guys could smell food the second it hit the water it's crazy

I might just take all the lps corals out and put some candy cane frags In the trap and see if he'll go in then
