Hi all, so I was thinking of getting an emerald crab to add to my cleanup crew as I recently sold my other bubble algae machine ( my foxface). Has anyone ever had problems with them chomping coral? If so what corals?

Thanks!

I don't think they are eating it, just pick at it/clip it off.

Why did you sell the foxface?

Main reason for selling was he got too big for my tank I think he was close to 6 inches by the end. He was a great fish though, very sociable and a great grazer. You have to keep them well fed though otherwise yes they will eat coral polyps, mainly Zoa's for me bit once I started feeding more and dropping nori in every couple days he stopped.

My Fox Face has never touched any Corals, Very sociable Fish, My Yellow Tang and the Fox Face are Pals, Inseperable, 2 Algea eating machines, They have done a great job, only thing is they will both out grow my tank.

Emerald Crabs are very illusive, not sure if they actually eat Bubble Algea, they try to but not sure. I had one once that killed Starfish atleast I think that was the Culprit, The only other inhabitant in the tank was a Clown Fish'

Foxfaces are great fish! I actually purchased an emerald crab and he has done wonders on my long hair algae and has been eating my corraline but has yet to touch the bubble algae. I may try another though as they are the only creatures I know of that will eat it. I know this for a fact as I have seen them munching bubble algae in a couple of other tank.

I've always kept 2 emeralds in my tank and they do a great job and I've never seen them munch on anything they shouldn't. They get a thumbs up from me!

Well I now have two of them in my tank, I tried the first and he was only interested in coraline haha, so I tried another and he has been munching away now for the last 24 hours!!! it was kinda funny as when i put him in the tank he was all freaked out and then he scuttled over the rocks past some bubble algae then did a double take, retraced his steps and started ripping at it like there was no tomorrow! Seems as though his stomach got in the way of his fear!!!

Thanks for all the help, I am glad I got the two. One for making my rock work white again and one for the bubble algae!
