I had this problem to buddy, not with crabs but with my whole systme when I switched because I didnt realize that the DI water I was using had a pH of about 6 and I shocked my whole system where as locally our water supply is on the higher end and doesnt cause much shock on our system. So if your not using a Kalkreactor then Im going to assume this was your problem. I use a teaspoon of baking soda now per 5gals of DI water during changes to raise the pH and it seems to work because I dont have a Kalkreactor.
If this isnt the problem then I dont know, sorry about your loss buddy and hope you find the problem.
Cheers!

I like Ian's approach wiht the baking soda - I will have to check my RO water pH.
One other quick thought - my first emerald I had assumed was dead, but he had just molted - the old shell was perfectly in tact (they just escape through a back door).  Hopefully that's it and you will be pleasantly surprised ike I was.
