So last night I noticed this white hairy crab. I figured he wasn't reef safe so I wanted him out. So I told a glass cup and put some food in it and tilted so when he climbed in he wouldn't be able to get out. Woke up in the morning and a crab was in the cup, but it wasn't the one I was trying to catch lol here is a pic. I take it this guy is not reef safe?

I was under the impression almost all hairy crabs are not reef safe...

good job taking him out. Maybe toss him in your sump to live out his days or take him back to your lfs?

I have never been a fan of any crabs in my reef....had some that attacked my torches. And once i got decent sized efflo frag that had a small hitchhiker crab on it and he was just going to town picking away at the efflo and you could see that the effli was browned out in that area....once crab was gone the efflo cokoured up nice. Personally i would temove all crabs because i am pretty sure they are not needed and are very hit and miss imo

So nobody has a sump for this guy? I don't want to kill it. And my lfs said he will just feed it to a trigger. How long can he live in the cup for? Lol

Haha thanks. It's crazy this isn't even the one I was trying to catch. The other one is much bigger.

So I almost caught the white crab last night when he was trying to eat one of my snails. What kind of food would be best to put in a trap to catch the crab? Pellets didn't work. Need some other ideas.

I'll have to make a different trap maybe. Right now I'm using a glass cup and I have it tilted against the rock
