Not to be a jerk...

But he's not TOTM on Reefcentral as the title says, he's TOTM on Reefkeeping.com

Or am I missing something?  His tank is nicer than the one on RC right now, did he win for Dec on there?  I somehow missed this thread, but went direct to reefcentral (instead of following the link) and couldn't find it.

Congrats though Darryl no matter what.  You definitely have a nicer tank than a lot of the ones that have been on ReefCentral, without question.  There was one once that was almost identical looking to yours that I recall from some time ago, but most of them are just very clean, very bare tanks.  Bill's tank looks suspiciously similar to yours nowadays, I assume you gave him a helping hand?

Yes you are missing something.  The reefkeeping blog is where RC has the TOTM.  The one you see on the RC homepage is November and mine is December but it hasnt been changed yet.  To tell you the truth I have lost a bit of respect for the way they run the TOTM articles on RC....it was very disorganized.  I've asked about when it should be on the homepage and was told by my contact that he was looking into it but that was days ago.

hmmm....i dont think they look a like at all unless you think all mature SPS tanks look the same...then ya they are starting to look similar.

It is a bummer they don't keep the main page updated over there, a few months back they were at least 3 months behind on an update. seems like someone should get on top of it since they basically just need to add a photo and link to the entire article over at reefkeeping.com.

I think your seeing the similarity in bill's tank and darryls tank because Jroovers took those shots both so the actual photos and post editing are being done by the same photographer maybe?

Well, I know what his tank used to look like....I now see what his tank looks like, and YOU are posting his pictures, so not really a huge stretch to assume that you helped him, but assumptions are usually a foolish thing to do. Seems like you were offended and it wasn't intended that way.

Regardless, congrats.  Except for the fact that both reefkeeping.com and reefcentral both tank forever to load a page (no idea why), I had no notion that the two were related.  Still, if you are Dec TOTM and it's Dec 11th you're getting ripped off for coverage.

It is a shame they don't have the TOTM up on their homepage.  The one thing I give credit to RC for is having that page updated each month.  That has slid recently as noted above.  I can't stand seeing a TOTM or POTM up for more than a couple of months (or more than 1 year lol in regard to certain other sites, especially those that collect fees from users/sponsors).  In this day and age with digital photography, it is so simple to link to another site/image.

In regard to photos, I did not take that FTS of Bill's tank.  I did take some shots for Darryl, but the majority in his TOTM article are his shots.  If they all look the same or similar, probably speaks to them all being properly white balanced more than anything, as they were taken by different photographers.  I can tell you Darryl's tank is spectacular in person, and it is hard to take a bad photo really.  Bill's tank IMO has improved considerably in terms of colouration over the past few months, which also makes taking a bad picture difficult.  Two beautiful tanks.  Some similarties, some differences.  Both I would classify as SPS dominant however so you could say they are in the same genre.  Personally, I find each tank I look at in person different from every other, and IMO each system is unique.

Not offended at all Glen. Nothing to really get offended about.

I wouldnt say Ive helped Bill too much...definitely not more than ive helped others or more than im willing to help anyone.  And by help I'm just refering to friendly conversation, sharing experience and offering advice.

I think it is too.. but at the same time the tank that's there now has only been up for like 2 weeks so far i think.. hopefully they will leave your tank there for a while once they finally do change it..

Looks like he must of won tank of the year or something as it is still on the front page.  They almost should be paying to use that picture.

It always boggles my mind when people do well at things that it appears they are not putting a lot of effort into. If I had my own business and put everything into it, I would still fail.

Im referring to the fact that they dont update the TOTM, not Darryls tank

Well it had to come down at some point... nice run though Darryl!  Even among TOTM's, I think yours is in elite company.  :)
