Clown pairing

So I have had the same clowns since week 4 of my tank so 5 months now. I got them both at the same size and the one is probably double the size of the other now. They hang out most of the time with the bigger one bullying the little one gently every now and then and they sleep together. My question is how do you you know if they are actually mated? The reason I ask is because they don't seem interested in hosting anything. I have two torch corals, a hammer and two fat and healthy anenomes but they have shown no interest in anything...

Just because they won't host doesn't mean their not paired. If they spend the night in the same place they are paired. If your hoping they host something get a Nem.

Just because they won't host doesn't mean their not paired. If they spend the night in the same place they are paired. If your hoping they host something get a Nem.

I have two regular clownies, and they are always swimming side by side in the green torch coral I have in my tank. Is that a good sign? The one clown is an OG member of my tank. I have had that fish since the very beginning. The other clown was added about 5 months later, but they are always in and around the green torch at all times. They are also roughly the same size as one another, there is no signs of one being noticeably larger than the other (I head the female will get bigger)

More then likely there are tank bred. The reason for this happening is they have been bred for such a long time out of the ocean that don't know to associate with anemone.

Most likely in the process of still figuring out who's who. Could take up to 2 years for that to happen. The female will be noticeably bigger, maybe 2x the size of the male.

Even adding a anemone there's no guarantee they will host that either.

that means nothing, if you pair percula clowns or occelaris with their natural host in the wild its 100% they will dive right in within a few minutes of adding it to the tank.. bubbletips on the other hand theres no guarantee because percula and occelaris dont host those naturally. Tomato or Clarkii on the other hand will dive right in 100% of the time.

Oh ok, I didn't know that, what nem is their nature host in the wild?
Which nems do you have in your clownfish kingdom ?

i have bubbletips, which arent their natural host, they do go in them still.

LTA, Magnifica, and Gigantea anemones are true perculas natural hosts.

Magnifica, and Gigantea anemones are occelaris natural hosts.

both can take to bubbletips in captivity. but its pretty hit or miss.

nope, you  cant breed out 1000's of years of instinct in just a few generations. get a gig or a mag and percs and occs will dive in 100% same day.. if anyone buys one and they dont, ill cover the cost of the nem for u.. lol

[/quote]They are usually huge and go for about 49.99 Ask Duke if he remembers how big they were last time he saw them.  I also have bubble tips coming in.
