Of course not. Nicrew makes decent light fixtures but this is not even close to an XR15. Besides performance, the unit doesn't support programmable control over each color channel. It might be a decent option for a budget setup.

Was referring to the look and style. Performance for Chinese box LEDs is similar to Radions. You are paying for the brand name. I find programmability one of the most useless things with light fixtures. I haven’t changed my light setup in over a year. It’s the same as the first day I started.

About 1/2 watts, spectrum similar, LED count similar, looks the same, less programmability.

The similarities in design are great but that is where it ends. They look the same, and done. It is an ON/OFF light with no sunrise/set dimming and only certain dimming points within a color for brightness. Even at that they only have a 18x18" coverage on the 50w and recommend SPS in the top center of the tank, directly under the light.

They are selling though. Some decent reviews even. Just be sure to note that the only control is on the face of the light and not a SPS light.

For 1/6th the price I could live without a sunrise sunset. I imagine most of us miss either the sunrise or sunset of our tanks being at work. Here’s a spectrum comparison as well. Pretty dang close.

PAR reading...nough said. Even a Chinese black box has a higher PAR. Not to mention these readings are with NO water, just the light open air

Chinese black box have higher peak par readings then radions but are more focused. They have poor spread from middle to edge.

Those par values don’t check out for the watts, spectral output, and lumens the light produces. They should do a test in water.

Spectrum yes, intensity no. That PAR would be even lower if they tested over a filled aquarium.

Would be great for lps, softies or any low light livestock. The color is awesome and looks great. I only wish there was some other control other then those buttons. But it would be a set and forget type set up, so not all that bad.

The second example you give may be true, but if you put that on your tank with those PAR levels, everything would be burnt and dead in a matter of minutes. Claiming over 900PAR in the middle of a tank is insane. Although there are some that can, most corals, even most SPS can not handle that.

That’s why I feel both are inaccurate measures of par. There’s no way the radion knock is producing only 120 par at max intensity. There’s no way that light is producing 2500 par either.

BRS did do a par test of one knock off light, the main issue they stated was the power supply, very weak and several have caused fires. If I recall 14" above the tank provided the par required for most types of coral. Personally one of my main sources of coral has many tanks and several with all black box setups, he grows amazing coral, looks incredible and is not really concerned with the bells and whistles. At the end of the day it does come down to personal preference, tank layout, environment, feeding and so much more.

I went with Hydra 52's because I found a good deal, they look slick and they give the color I like.
