Buying Seaweed

As ive grown in my marine experiences, ive found better and cheaper sources for seaweed. Most people find out very quickly that sushi grade seaweed is the same stuff as you might get with say Julian Sprung' sea veggies. At a much cheaper price and significantly larger packages. But until now i only found the regular green variety this way. Here in Kitchener, i recently stumbled upon the red variety at my local seafood supply store. Or by its other name , dulse. Exact same stuff as the Julian Sprung variety. I pay about $14.99 locally for a Julian Sprung 30 gram package. At Caudle's Catch , a 40 gram package for $3.99. Maybe not news to some, but for those who don't, i thought id post this for them. Ive attached a pic of the 2 for comparison.

Yup Dulse is the Red, Laver is Purple, and Nori is the Green. Certainly makes things cheaper when buying them online! You can also offer a few other varieties though I can't attest to their palatability to tangs as I haven't tried them, such as Wakame/Alaria, Gracilaria/Ogo/Ogonori, and Kelp/Kombu. I've read Gracilaria is loved by many tangs/angels but I've yet to try it personally. Just always make sure your trying to find raw non-toasted/roasted and no oil or seasonings! Roasted/toasted isn't the worst but it does lower the nutritional value of the seaweed, just as cooking anything does really.
