So did anyone else get the letter from BRS today saying that they got hacked in January and they had credit card information stolen from them?

"...This incident involved some customer's name, address, telephone number, email address/username, password and credit card information..."

Are you FU**ING kidding me BRS?

I saw that notice when I tried to login the other day, they forced me to reset my password. But I don't think I got an email about it unless it went to my junk mail....

I also use Paypal for all my purchases so hopefully that protects me a bit (since my CC info wouldn't be on the BRS servers anywhere).

Ya, my password didn't work anymore, luckily I always paid with paypal so no credit card or banking info to worry about.

They released this information a week or so ago. But of coarse things take longer to get to Canada, you know, with all those dangerous letters out there. Cyber attacks have increased across all store sites over the last few months. One of the reasons I try to only use paypal or emt if possible. Basically anyone with some spare time and a decent laptop can hack.

that is horrible, hopefully no one in Canada will be affected.. gives you a lot of security ordering from them, what about your email address, a person would be amazed at what info you can get from there and if they hacked into their computer system what would it take to hack into your home computer..

From what I have read, people were having their accounts compromised even earlier than the letter said. They were able to track it back to BRS. But BRS didn't look into it right away (so says a post on the internet, here is a grain of salt...)

Anyone that has "logged in" will have gotten the letter. I haven't ordered anything, but have looked into a few things, that was enough to get my letter today.

If you go to their site, they are offering free credit watching service... Take them up on it. Its free to you, but I am pretty sure they are going to have to pay for every subscription. This is always the "oops, we messed up, and to avoid getting sued here is something for you to look after things yourself" token.

Got my letter, which confirmed my suspicions that the last two fraudulent purchases made with my card came from BRS. Both months I purchased from them and within 10 days there were various trips, furniture and more charged to my card. Very frustrating and demoralizing.

Oh wow. Sorry to hear this. I hope the card company stepped up. It is getting really hard for me to shop online without PayPal. Staples was just hacked in December and as many as 1.16 million customer credit cards may have been stolen, then there was Home Depot, Target IIRC, plus the whole Sony hack that happened over Christmas.

And while typing this message, I found something extremely disturbing...a report from ITRC (Identity Theft Resource Center) showing 761 identified security breaches in 2014 with over 83million people affected. Everything from hydro companies to schools to medical records and more. Oh, and that was just a report of US based companies. LINK
