Anyone ever used black substrate? I love the look and I'm considering using Caribsea...but I've read that it looks like  :poop: after sometime. Is this true?

I had Caribsea in my freshtank. It might not be good for salt water. There are pieces of metal in there.

I scratched my previous tank because my magnetic cleaner picked up a few particles and got clogged and ground into my glass.

Ya, I've been reading about that too. I'm pretty sure it's safe for reefs...

It looked great in my tank, but it is a HUGE pain in the butt to keep clean. Poo shows up stunningly well against a black substrate. Have fun and you have been warned. lol

This is what I used.

1. It says no rinsing required. That I can tell you 10000000% is utter bullsh1t. It needs to be rinsed REPEATEDLY. It has a black film to it that will at the very least make your tank water look like crap.

2. This stuff is really rough and jagged. Might not be ideal for burrowing fish like gobies due too how fine it is.

3. It is expensive as hell. 50 bucks for a large bag. To do my 180 gallon it took like 5 bags to get decent coverage.

Once again, good luck my friend.

If you go this route try and get this:

carib-sea-super-naturals-tahitian-moon-2268kg-grava-negra_MLA-F-4230062018_042013.jpg

I know this one says 20lbs but I know it comes in 40lbs bags rather than the instant aquarium 20 lbs bags or super naturals 20 lber's, and it doesn't have all that "good stuff" to help your tank along garbage. This is just sand.

This is dusty as all hell though, so be sure to rinse for a few hours.... lol

Caribsea Super Naturals Tahitian Black Moon Sand - Also don't use the clarifier, it freaking sucks and is oily
