I drilled three in my new tank. 1.5 inch bulk heads. It's like gambling....go in thinking you have lost the money and anything you win is a bonus. Lol. I used cheap diamond bits off Amazon. ...like 5 bucks each. Used a new one for each hole.

Where would you put the holes? I won't really have good access to the back of the tank once it is all plumbed. I guess on one side or the other?

even a glass shop wont guarantee the pane of glass wont crack,and good luck making them replace it if it does,princess auto
is where i get all my bits,and it is quite simple,let the weight of the drill do all the work.youtube has tons of vids these days.
theoretically the overflow box will work like bracing on the back pane

I used the reef central info from father of 6 who is an expert..follow the directions and there will be no issues. I put all three on one side....maintaining the golden rule of space above and beside each hole. The real variance will be how deep your holes are will equal the depth of your bottom of the overflow. You will always see the inner overflow water depth from normal viewing. What you don't want is the top of dt water line being below the black trim. But in your case you have more to play with because visible waterline on front pane of dt is why you went with euro bracing. I forgot to mention that off my mag 12 I have a manifold with gate valves to section off to two tlf150 and a main line into my fuge from the return as well. My return off the mag is fed up and over with 1 inch pvc. Hindsight I wish I used a 4th hole on opposite end thru bulkhead and loc line out of overflow and then over.

my syphon and trickle are on one side(right),the return is dead center and my emergency is on the opposite side(left)

I'm going to have the back panel cut an inch below the other panels all the way across. Then I will attach the external box to the side. Pieces and run the side euro braces all the way back and pick up the sides of the overflow box.

I'll make the box 7" off the back of the tank and 7" deep. That will give me lots of room for the 2.5" holes for the bulkheads and the bean elbows etc. the water depth will be around 19" in the DT and I'm going to use less substrate

Sounds good!! Can't wait to see it running! Make sure once your water level is at a functioning level and things have stabilized you adhere to terminating the down pipes into your sump by at least 1 inch under water...otherwise startup will be an issue with air I'm main drain
