Bare bottom or sandbed?

After now having dealt with both. I say bare bottom all day long. Sand beds are dirty and a pain I don't think I would ever use one again. What are everyone elses experiences

nver tried bare bottom... I have asand bed about 1.5 inches.... and have never cleaned it... the nass .. sand sifting dtar and the new aquired sea cucumber are always busy

DSB, and I would never do anything else, myself.

I don't clean it, it isn't white and pristine, but it's got kazillions of bacteria helping me keep a stable tank.  Once every 6 months or so, I vacuum out the top layer, discard it and put a new 1/2" down from bags of clean new seaflor. 

I DO believe the introduction of GFO has allowed a lot of DSB systems to avoid the "mature tank syndrome" which I'm sure can come with a DSB setup.  However, I'm no nuclear physichrist.

Next tank I am going BB, can't stand my sand bed. It's a pain.

i've tried both, don't like bb, sand looks more natural, does require some work to keep it clean, plus i like my goby/shrimp pair and my red scooter blenny likes to bury himself at night.
IMO in tank DSBs are not worth the potential problems, remote DSBs can be taken offline if nec. but i don't like them either.

I've tried both and I go with a shallow sand bed and will be syphoning when needed. I've never done that before so it'll be new to me. I hate dirty Sand Beds

i went bb this time around,dont fancy the look but with the high flow in my tanks sand just blows around and clogs my socks faster

SSB for me. I stir it up every couple of weeks. It is nice and clean. Been running for a year without any ill effects.

I think having a Bb is easier to clean maintain etc but a ssb looks way more realistic... And we are going after realistic looks arnt we?
If we want everything to be easy over good looking why not just have all fake corals?

It's a no brainer really.

Have tried all over the years....Currently MSB  (4") in the 200gal, SSB in the 180gal but will be returning to DSB when I transfer into the big tank.

I agree with Salty on the reasoning and it has proven true in my systems.
