Are baffles completely necessary? After measuring the compartment in my sump i realized that this skimmer im buying wont fit, and my only option would be removing the last compartments(the shallowest one) so itll fit. And im definately not looking for a new skimmer, and id prefer not to search for a new sump since ive got a dozen tanks sitting around. Thanks
Riley.

Adv.. Unlimited layouts spacing etc,

Disadvantages- can't do a separate compartment for fuge
Other than that not to much lol

Thats what im doing as well with this build. Im hoping this 35g will slide in beside the 30g sump so i can use it as a fuge, already drilled at the top so just need to get a bulkhead for it.

Baffles are needed to keep a constant water level for your skimmer. Unless you have a drip ato like a drip shut off to keep the sump always at the same water level, then the level will drop constantly messing with your skimmers efficiency

Just get an ATO, and as long as your ATO tank has water in it your sump level will never change more than .5 inches. You should have an ATO anyways they keep a constant salinity in your tank.

I run a single baffle... not three together for bubble traps or whatever.

The levels between the two section is very close so nt bubbles form. The skimmer is in the first section so it has a stable water level. The ATO is in the next section and that keeps the two section depths pretty consistent.

so I lost a 1/4" of space... ooooo
