ok, yesterday i broke my big stag off the back glass and theres no way glue was going to hold it so i ran out and grabbed a tube of that 2 part instant ocean putty stuff.. long story short its been 30+ hours now and i havent been able to run my skimmer.. i read this epoxy putty will mess with your skimmer.. but i mean its been over a day now.. 30+ hours without a skimmer running.. i just tried to fire it up figuring everything should have settled down.. well it didnt.. so i took the skimmer out and cleaned it in and out pump and all.. and its still doing it.. so i raised it so its only sitting in 4" of water instead of 9" and its still overflowing like mad.. so now im just letting it run and overflow back into my sump.. anyone have any ideas on what to do.. i used 1/2 a tube of that putty..

I didnt even know the putty did that. Probably take some time then. Especially if you used half a tube of it.

I have used the putty, I open my skimmer up to the lowest setting where normally you would not even start to fill the chamber with bubbles, then let that run and empty the cup once or twice just to get that crap, what ever it is, out of the water column. Just really sucks as then I have to tune it again, but at least it gets back to working again quickly.

Maybe you should just pull all your corals out and give them to me before they die. LOL....

ya i still have lots of glue, just the stag probably weighed 2 lbs or so so glue just wouldnt cut it.. i used the putty to move it to a rock. i just added a kitchen bowl which raised the intake of the skimmer to about 1/2" from the water surface... its starting to skim.. lol. whatever is in that stuff.. NOTHING has done that to my skimmer ever.. tank corals and fish are all not affected.. just the skimmer.

OK Note to self, DO NOT USE 1/2 TUBE OF PUTTY AT ONCE, But I bet once everything is running again it'll be worth it to see it secured to the glass.

I would prepare 10 gallons of new saltwater and let the skimmer overflow ten gallons and drain them from the skimmer cup (hope you have a drain at the cup). Add new saltwater as needed. Maybe it will stabilize/reduce after 10 gallons.

i kinda like it on the rock instead of the glass anyways.

I have used large large quantities of the IO putty to fix rock work, and countless times to affix corals and frags, have never noticed it effecting my skimmer.  Strange, didn't know this could be an issue.  I have actually found it to be the best putty to work with, especially when mixed with crazy glue gel. Hopefully you get the skimmer back on track soon.

+1 I use the IO epoxy/putty from Pet Smart regularly and haven't had this issue either.

Maybe it was a bad batch or something else was involved? Could there have been anything on the bowl?

I actually prefer this stuff as it has a longer working time before it gets tough/hardens and is very inexpensive $7-$8.

IMO, Dollarama gel glue and IO epoxy can't be beat for price and performance.
