Another Cube

I recently acquired a 60g cube to replace my Solana (just not quite big enough).
So far I've got the plumbing done for the sump, added some Argonite and some rock, filled with water and started to cycle. Added an Mp40 for flow and a small Bubble Magnus for skimming.

Trying to do a more open concept tank and will keep a good amount of live rock in the refugium.

Cloudy glass from the sand but here is the rock work

More pics to follow and still need to sort out some where to put an ATO res. and all the electrical. May need to add a cabinet beside the tank.

Lookin good! Won't a mp60 blow the sides off that tank lol
I was in error saying an MP60, its just an MP40.

I've got 2 mp10's going on the 34g now that work perfect. They may make their way to this tank but not sure. The 40 does a nice job so maybe 1 mp10 and 1 mp40.

Is that a monarch stand? If so does it give you enough room to work with? The stand my tank came with is a diy and the sides come off which is nice. But a monarch stand looks better

No idea on the make.
Not a ton of room. I did buy a couple of the cord organizers to clean up the wiring.
May only use one.
Have to let the system cycle then I've got to move light and ato over.
Not sure what to use for a reservoir. May have to get one made. Needs to look appropriate and wife friendly. Not to mention somewhat stranger and child proof.

Looking at heater placement. Toss up between putting into the overflow or buying a smaller one that will fit into the first compartment of the sump where the skimmer goes.

Haven't decided which way to go.

I am however concerned of the resonating hum that the pump makes in the cabinet. Almost too much to be in the room. Tried foam under the pump, tried moving some of the hoses, won't stop. Driving wife crazy.

At this time
  • Vertex Illumina for light (with additional color pad, running expert mode with moon lighting as well)
  • 60 gallon rimless (24x24x24 @heath ), corner overflow
  • MP40 for flow in the tank
  • Mixture argonite for bed
  • 0.025 water at 78 degrees, 2 part to maintain alk and cal
  • Bubble Magnus 3.5 NAC skimmer
  • 200w Ebo heater
  • bag of Phosban in baffles of sump
  • leftover bag of Chem-pure (just hanging on the edge of the sump for now
  • Syncra silent 3.5 for return, splits off to feed the left side of the sump full of rock set up on top of eggcrate structure)
  • JBJ magnetic fuge light on 24 hours a day for cheato
  • mp10 in sump for slow but continual water movement
  • daily "splash" of live phyto
  • bi-weely Aquavitro Fuel
  • Reefkeeper to run all the timers
  • 1 Clown, 1 Kole tang, 1 yellow clown goby, 1 blue damsel in sump, few halloween crabs, few mini blue leg crabs, 2 snails to move sand around
Thats it for now.
Just monitoring and slowly increasing light levels

There is a reason that I did not include a pic of the left side of stand. All a bunch of wires and power bars. Next big step is organizing everything. Got to find something to fit between the stand and the couch with roof for cables and the ato tank. Oh, needs to pass wife test to.
This may be the toughest part of the reef tank.

Any thoughts on flow through sump?
I have half of the sump set up with live rock (sitting on top of egg crate on some left over 90 degree plumbing pieces) and cheato bare bottom. The return pump puts about 10% of water back through the fuge side.
Right now I have an mp10 running on low in the back corner of the fuge to keep the water circulating. Is this too much flow? Should this section be almost zero flow and just crank a pump on ever week or so to push all the detritus off the bottom?
Fuge also contains a blue damsel and yellow clown goby (both banished for their display tank behavior). Also a couple blue leg crabs just because.
