Adding Rock

Well its been a while since I did any cycling so I have a question for the guru's out there

Some of you out there know my tank. I have about 35lbs of cooked live rock plus approx 25lbs of ceramic rock in my display. In the sump I have another 50ish pounds of cooked LR as well. The yank has been running for about 2 and a half years now and has matured fairly well

My question

I want to add 50lb of BRS type quarried rock into the sump area, let it sit there for 4 weeks then remove some of it to start a new tank plus there is one really nice piece of LR in the sump now I want to remove

So I will keep all the LR in now minus a 12lb piece and take about 30lbs of the freshly cycled BRS rock for new tank

The ONLY thing I really care about is to NOT negatively affect my Display

All comments welcome

Any addition of fresh rock or substrate will provide unbound silicates which will create a temporary diatom bloom in the system.  Obviously it will pass but, it will happen.

If you are starting a new tank that is not connected to your current system then I would suggest just putting the new rock into your new setup and let the whole thing cycle and mature..... If you must add the new rock to your current setup then I would suggest only adding a little bit at a time.....I wouldn't put that much new rock into any established successful system right away.
