dont add fish till nitrates are below 30 - wont take long now.

you can do a water change if you want and wait a couple days to see what the levels balance out to.

A water change won't "rekick" a cycle.  Some bacteria does reside in the water column but very very little when compared to the bacteria that resides on/in the live rock, sand and any other aquarium surface.

So you can do a water change.....or simply wait a bit longer.

yup 10 to 20 % would be fine... if your nitrates are up then your tank has all the required bacteria it needs,  now its just a matter of their population meeting the bioload in the tank.  Its an on going thing.... add a fish the tank will have a little more waste than it can handle at first, but then the bacteria population will grow to compensate.  Just give it a couple weeks between additions to let the tank finds it equilibrium point.

Water changes will do hardly anything to the cycled tank's bacteria population.  They will lower the concetration of nitrates in the water :)  So do some water changes until your tank gets to 30 or lower and add a small fish or two.

I guess I just figured that cause I got 2 chemipure elites in the sump that my nitrates would be lower lol

chemi pure elite will do nothing for nitrates, nitrites or ammonia.

its a bag of carbon/gfo. It will lower phosphates and silicates and remove the yellow tint that comes with degrading water quality.

Just an update!!! Got a small CUC going and a small fish base.
2 clowns
2 fire fish
1 Hector goby

I'm just wondering what you all think of the hector goby?? The one I bought has been in captivity for about a year and tho it was hard to tell if it was eating frozen. It is sifting sand in my DT so I hope all goes good

if its been in captivity and WAS eating frozen then you are fine. It probably wont eat for a few days while it settles in. Just keep a close on it during feeding time and maybe squirt some food close to it to entice him further.

Well I seen it eat at my LFS but so far nothing :( he will chase the food but won't eat it.  He is ripping apart my sand bed and constantly pick at stuff. He must really like pods so anyone know where to get them at a good price in Canada?

if hes only eating pods then ur in trouble... have you tried something smaller like cyclopeeze (aka cyclops?)

ive got them and ive feed them to all the fish and he only eats (well looks like eating) if the food is on the ground. i just find it weird that he can last for a year at my LFS and then just change his eating habits

fish can go a solid week if not more without food, just keep giving it food and turn the flow down so hes aware of it

if you finding lots of food left over try to siphon it out and do water changes more regularly. Nip it in the but before it becomes an issue. Better to be PROACTIVE vs. REACTIVE.

going forward, never pick up a fish at an LFS on  whim. When i grabbed my yellow hogfish i saw him at my lfs for 3 weeks before i bought him. yes there is a chance they might get sold but if you dont do your research you could end up screwing yourself. Make up a list of fish you like and stick to it. If you like something at the LFS, sleep on it and do some thorough research. You can always have your LFS bring in whatever fish you like with their next shipment.

Thx for the advice I understand it complete. Today was the only day I actually over feed just to make sure the goby ate. And as for the fish, I seen it eat at the store and I couldn't figure out y it wouldnt eat in my tank. But from now on im getting my LFS to hold fish for me or basicly what u said sleep on it. Lol
Thx for all the help!!

Will post pictures when school slows down
