Crashed And Looking Ahead.

Hey all, so over this covid "crap". My reef decided to have a massive crash causing my nem to die and kill everything off...so I've learned my lesson with nano tanks.

Now that said. I'm looking for inspiration and equipment ideas for a 40-50 gal with sump system and I'm looking to start again hopefully in a few months. So incite on good skimmers, dosing systems reactors and all the inbetween would be great. I have some ideas my self but would like the input from you experienced reefers of this size or similar.

ive always liked a 40g breeder layout, with the ability to look down on the corals ( so a lower tank)

Now that said, i just did the opposite, ( really high 75g cube)

so many things to do and no way is the wrong way

I really like the look of tall cubes but can never seam to find them. But if I do they are a fortune

mines a 24x24x30. definitely hard to find, but i love it!

Any skimmers you would recommend for a 40? Probably running a 20 gal sump

Usually the smaller ones you have to keep a close eye on.

20 gal nano. Fiance put some limitations on what I could do so I did what I had. When it crashed and saw my reaction she became a bit more lenient so I'd said I'd double the size and go the sump method. Been doing some research and thinking of going the ATS approach to save some cash in the long run.

I see. I have a 30 gallon with no sump, and a HOB skimmer, and another reefer has 40 gallon. It’s possible to keep nanos, but have less margin for error. Good luck with the new setup.

Gotta agree with Shooter, they are definitely possible. 13.5 gallon Fluval sea aio, jebao sw2, stock fluval light. No skimmer but performed weekly 5 gal water changes. Tunze ato to keep salinity stable.

Husbandry is extremely important with nanos as they swing really quickly, unlike larger systems.

Not exactly sure what caused my crash as of yet. But I have a 150w led. Tunze ATO recently added. UV light for diatoms. And I used plexiglass to build A filter ATO style... But I want to upgrade and my wife is having alot of second thoughts.. so I'm either thinking of buying a new 20 and using the old as a sump. Or getting a 40 cube since it has a smaller foot print and looks cleaner

That was my old nano, I ran a red sea skimmer and just that, 2x dailytopoff,weekly waterchange,, now i have a 44G sps dominant, NO SUMP, on either tank.. It can be done,
