Hey everyone, so I have had a baby banggai in the tank for about 3 months now and he/she is very shy. He dosent eat much because the other fish eat a lot but he seemed to be doing fine. Last night he seemed perfectly normal. This morning I went down for my feeding time and I couldn't find him. I immediately looked around the whole tank, and still couldn't see it. I then took apart my rock work and looked EVERYWHERE. I looked on the floor and below my tank in case he had jumped out. I have a lid and it was never open. I lifted my leather coral and used a flashlight and I even looked in the back of my biocube and STILL NOTHING. Where could he be?? Don't know if he's dead, but if he is what could have been the cause. My nitrates were ate 15...I'll see if I can find him again in the morning but I doubt it. Sad day as he was my first fish in the tank and had a special place on my heart. :(

Sorry to hear of your troubles...I really hope it is ok. I would wait and look for it when everything is dark. I'm not sure how big of a tank we're talking about but banggais typically come out in the open after the lights go out and like to stay semi hidden when the lights are on. I'm not sure if yours demonstrated this behaviour but this is just been my experience with the pair I have. They are also surprisingly quick and good hiders so I wouldn't panic just yet. Keep your fingers and fins crossed it shows. Let us know how you make out.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Colby. .. do u have a tight fitting lid.... if not could have jumped out... do you have a cat or a dog. If it's tight fitting... he's gotta be in there some where .... any way could he have been sucked up? . Could be hiding very stealth like too. If it did die your CUC could have cleaned him up quickly.

The lid was never open, yes it is a tight fitting lid. I have 3 cats:eek: but it's a bicoube so he couldn't have gotten out. I looked in the back of the tank where all the filtration is but no dice. Do u mean sucked up when doing a water change because that did not happen. He never hides though always stays at the top of the tank near the back. You don't think that it had anything to do with my nitrate, do you?? Or maybe he wasn't getting enough food? My cuc could have eaten him.. jheez...

It's really hard to say... sometimes there are mysterious things that happen in this hobby... you may never know for sure.

I have never known them to jump, my guess would be that the other fish in the tank would not let him get enough food and so sorry to say but, I think that your cuc got him...that's why I asked.. sorry...
cardinals are a super shy fish, with the clowns and the six line they might have bullied him.. my six line can be an asshole, he is with my royal gramma..

Sorry about your loss. I think they are a gorgeous fish. Maybe a bit premature, but keep in mind @Kjmsmith, if you choose to get another one or two or three.
