i was wonder who has set up a quarantine tank for sps with a nano.
I've started to build my sps collection up and now that i discover new pieces that are wild and from an unknown source i wanna set up a qt
just wondering if anyone has done this
at the moment my plan is to start up the tank with used rock and water. running a nuvo 8 gallon nano and using old water from my display for water change with a couple nano fish and acrylic frag holders
also no skimmer and using an AI nano hooked up to my apex
any thoughts

It's actually a very good idea...... Our dipping procedures do not kill off everything. JFox quarantines all wild coral for approx. 4 months.....

Personally, I can't even think of anyone who has kept sps successfully long term and never ran into an issue with pests attacking their sps corals.....

It is definitely a good idea. Your set up sounds ok to me, not sure about the non-skimming part, but if you keep your parameters ideal, can't see why it wouldn't work. Given that its going to be a nano tank though, you may have difficulty adjusting your coral up and down when introducing it to find a good placement to acclimate it.

Sounds about right to me. Red bugs a couple of times in my old system. No AEFW thank goodness, but I've heard the murmurs, although I think we've been pretty lucky in SW Ontario.

Also the more I think about it
When I buy coral it's usually a good amount ($$$) on frags and plan to at them and shut the tank down till the next purchase because I'm gonna us barebottom and more the live rock back and forth when needed witch won't be much 3-5 lbs witch I already have in my sump

Most people think of pests as AEFW or red bugs but by quarantining long term you are able to eradicate aiptasia, hydroids, manjanos, etc

Yep, I'm pretty sure my tank got aiptasia from a zoa frag I picked up from Fragfest last year. Had never seen it in my tank until I looked carefully at the plug of that beastly little frag.... now it's everywhere!
