Has anyone had any experience with the Ebay and Alibaba LED Reef lights? I have been looking into getting a hanging fixture or 2 for a fragging system that I am setting up. Just looking for some experience on light quality and durability since it is basically impossible to make a warranty claim on these. Do these ever pop up on the market used?

If your doing lps and softies there fine but sps it will keep alive but don't expect to get great growth at least I didn't

My neighbour has 2 Marsaqua 165 watt dimmable led fixtures over his 50 gallon and his Sps growth and colour has improved since switching from t5's. I think he paid about $90 a piece on eBay for them. I am considering them forsure when I get around to setting up my frag tank.

He must have had a cheap t5 lighting fixture
Not saying it won't grow but when I had them growth was slow and could only keep sps right at the top at least the good stuff

Those are the ones I was considering. With exchange and export though they're looking like 150-170 now though.

Have you had better luck with growth using t5's? I've only ever used leds but ive never tried to keep sps
My neighbour sps have all had really good growth and his colours are just as good if not better then when he ran t5's. He was reluctant at first about switching over but I have the Orphek Atlantik and I started my 90 gallon with it and I had awesome results with sps until I had heater malfunction. I will soon be setting up a 120 gallon 48"x24"x24" and am going to run the 4 t5's that came in the canopy along with my leds but this will only be until I can afford to buy another orphek atlantik. But my neighbour just set up a frag tank and has ordered another Marsaqua 165watt dimmable led for his frag tank because of how good his tank has done since making the switch to leds.

From my last tank a had a Chinese led modual it would keep most corals but I found with LEDs it was tuff to keep sps (beside montipora and digitata) they would live but not thrive
Now I'm running 8x54 watt t5 fixture
I know LEDs are proven to grow sps and I've seen some stellar tanks at that that are LEDs but not Chinese ones (not saying newer ones won't work) but some large amount of wattage with hundreds
If your not going all out sps I'd say go for it
