As many of you know, I dismantled my system not long ago, I'm gonna take a break for awhile and make some changes to my tank. Yes I still have the Tank, Sump, Skimmer.
So my dilemma is I have removed the unsightly glass corner over flow and the tank is drilled in the bottom, 2 holes. 1st idea is cap these holes and drill the back for external over flow and return.
2nd is Create a live rock wall 5 inches from the end that's drilled creating an over flow area much the same as a bio-cube and use the existing holes for drain and return.
WHY, because when I removed the corner over flow their is some etching on the glass that the rock wall will hide and it will create a Peninsula Tank effect.
The surround on the stand will be changed to Black Acrylic or Stainless panels and the DIY LED light will be used. The Rock wall may be either Rock Rubble attached to Egg Crate or DIY Live Rock attached.
so what do you all think?

DIY rock wall. You could just adhere rock/rubble to the old overflow and put it back in. You know that it fits and would be perfect

I would do the diy rock wall to hide it. Super easy to do.

Thanks Eric, I might just do that, I was thinking Portland Cement, Oyster Shells and Salt, and water of course. I've seen some videos and the process that I like is grabbing a big ball in your hands and allowing it to drip in clumps from the hands into the sand. Would it be better to use limestone as the rock?

When curing can you use fresh water with weekly water changes?

The easiest would be to cover the existing overflow with rubble, but if you want the internal out of there, just cover the holes and get an external cut into it. Take your time and do it the way you want it

I'd like to get it notched so it would look nice but that may not be possible, Torx put a real nice overflow on the inside of the tank that was notched then installed the external, but you know having the Peninsula is nice since the tank has an excellent back glass that was never painted. I could cap the holes and drill the end with an external box.

Thanks for the compliment. The internal part of my overflow is only about 1", but...it sticks out 4" in the back for plumbing etc. So if you want to go flush to the wall, an external is not the way to go.

Limestone will leach and cause ph issues. Use the oyster shells.

The drip method is the way I did it and comes out irregular and more natural looking IMO.

Like I said. The foam wall would be my suggestion for hiding the overflow. Really easy to work with and you can still cut it after it's cured for the teeth on the overflow.

As you can see in my tank threads. It looks really out of place at the beginning but once covered in coraline it looks quite natural.

All my builds going forward will always use some sort of foam wall or diy rock now. It's a lot easier than people think. Just time consuming

So I've decided to drill the back of the tank for an external over flow, I'm also gonna drill four holes for return . Wondering what size holes to drill, any suggestions, Also wondering about the Sealant? What did you use Mark?
