remove it and try a blackout for 72 hours. NO light what so ever. Put a thick blanket over the tank but make sure you are still get oxygen into the water. I dunno if it will help with your algae but most algae needs phosphate, water and light to survive. remove one and you usually kill it.

did the 72hour lightout help at all?

looks like its on the substrate only - try siphoning the top layer of your sand to get it all.

What are your nitrates and phosphates like?

Have them double checked by an LFS like Darren at Exotic Reef to sure your kits are accurate.

I dont think the problem was algae at all ........looks like red planaria (flatworms) from the pics.  I think I remember this from AP as well and it did turn out to be flatworms.

I'm with Darryl_V on this one! If they are moving you've probably got flatworms. Watch closely they move slow.
