Wtf?

Way back in august I bought some liverock.  Ended up with a little more than I needed, so just tossed the extra in a dry rubbermaid in the garage.  Opened it up today, and one rock had completely turned to rubble!  Wasn't expecting to use it, as I forgot it was even in there. Just curious how or why that happened.

Strange.  I've never had that happen and I have tons of rock that is being stored.

it doesnt look dry... my acidic water dissolved it?

No idea.  It all came from the same established tank.  One turned to rubble, the other didn't.

I would think if it was wet when it was stored then froze over the winter and the freezing temp exploded it. when freezing occurs expansion happens. that's what I think happened

I had rock outside all winter that was dry, taped completely shut with tape, still the same as when I put in there. Looks like it exploded, one that looks exploded looks pourous so would hold water better then the one that looks like a solid rock.

I believe it was the freezing that did it.  Although, that would mean if held a lot of water for a least a few months.

probably a very porous rock that had a lot of water in it, I've stored rock outside over the winter and have never seen it.
