Is it just me or does the rest of the Sw community leave LFS a little pissed off. I mean why should you have to barter prices like I'm in a fricken village market in India.
Prices are pathetically overpriced double sticker price. Then they say we'll price match then say whooaa can't go that low.
I need to start shopping in the USA.
There is only 1 store in Windsor I can tolerate because they're customer service has been nice. And they are having a rough time with  competition.  Who else has had issues?  I know for a fact one on Tecumseh rd does no like our forum.  80 percent of what you read in the forum is wrong info. Lol. What Bullshit.
Ok done with my rant.

probably the same LFS telling people tap water is okay for their system and coralife/seaclone skimmers are the best in the industry!

Hard not to buy online when prices are double on everything locally.

I understand supporting local stores is good, and I'd  even be fine paying a little extra but I won't pay double.

Huh! I'll have to ask if my lfs has relatives in the area, nah just kiddin - eventually you learn that you've outgrown them and move on to a store that is better suited to your needs  The little guy sometimes just can't compete with prices. My son in law couldn't believe the price I paid boxing day special for my sebae anenome. He used to go to the suppliers with his uncle and their cost would have been double what I paid.

There is a small pet store in the town down the road. He doesnt deal in saltwater, but will order things in for me.
I try too throw him some business when i can.  I know its tuff for him too compete with the bigbox stores or the internet.
But I also have too watch what i spend, so I order off the internet and shop here, and shop in the states.

At least you guys have a saltwater store there. Nothing in Sarnia.

I also want to support lfs. But now that I know better. Prices are way off the charts. Some advice is bad and things like don't use forums because they are wrong is ignorance.
Forums hurt business because they buy sell trade among the Sw community and warn others about issues and prices with lfs.
I have had good service from Sams in bell river and marine 8.2 by the way.
8.2 is going through a rough time but they do what they can to give decent prices and advice.  (from my experience with them) the other 2 here are fighting with each other which I find amusing.

That's the problem in Windsor. If there was a good LFS the saltwater/reef community would be thriving. A decent LFS that offers great prices and advice will provide a foundation to keep the hobby successful in the longterm. At least you guys can participate in this forum ;)

Here is what a LFS sales add looks like for SW tanks in Windsor.
But they'll give you 50% off list price. Lol

I find fish prices are on and off again half decent around here ill go to 8.2 first they have the best fish prices when they have fish in .. then ill go to corbrets if i have to.. i wont go to any other stores like aqua, or sams due to retarded prices and even thou aqua is affiliated with corbrets with dave at corbrets fish can be priced right "usually" if u already know what they usually go for. Now for coral and coral prices in windsor ..there is nothing  hence why we meet up with rick or the other forum  guys on here to buy from plus quality is 100 times better at 100 times cheaper

the problem is the smaller guys dont import their own stuff. They drive down to toronto and buy it at places like SUM and NAFB or other "wholesale only" joints at close to market prices. Then they have to recoup their gas and time, etc. and by the time they add a sufficient markup they are out to lunch and the livestock dies in their filthy tanks. There's too many middle men in this supply chain model taking a cut for anyone to make any real money. Its a bad business model and anyone with a half a brain would realize it's not a sustainable business model and should exit the industry if they fall into the above category.

Places like ReefRaft do very well for they fully integrated - they have people selecting corals on site so they only get the best each specimen. They also heavily market the unique pieces to build up hype so the retailers are willing to purchase their corals at heavily inflated prices for RR has already built the market for them.

Windsor guys just need to bite the bullet and make the drive to London or Toronto to pick up what they need. You guys should pool your resources and take a Van down once every two months and split the gas costs. If you get 5-6 guys together it would make it worth your while.

Renting a van and a bunch of us going isn't a bad idea I'd rather each of us give one guy 40-50$ each and an order and just one person go. I mean if I had the contacts in t.o. I would, it's tough tho. To coordinate everyone and whatnot. I would rather give 1 guy 40-50 from each of us and the, go because I know when to expect the coral later. It costs double that to ship anyway, and you gotta be home to receive your order. It is a tough business tho. That's why I stay on the consumer end I guess.

+1 on a group trip one day.  Im sure its something we could coordinate for a day trip in the spring or summer.  Wouldnt be a bad idea.  Id love to go to pick out my own stuff that hasnt been butchered by a LFS yet....
