incredible aquariums had a tank FULL of it.  I got some on some zoas...  I took the rock off and carefully pulled it all off with tweezers.  It hasn't come back.

I identified it as myrionema hydroids.

I researched and found two products that people have had success with in their main displays: panacur, and ZeoSpur2.

Bill says that a regal angel ate it all from his tank...

One little piece floating away will just spread it.

I know i have another one growing all over. Its short and doesnt grow tall. But spreads like crazy. I just tooth brush my rocks every other week and keep it at bay.

I don't think mag will melt them without screwing he rest of the tank. I had them in my old tank and I tried alot of things and non worked.  Even a blowtorch.

So I bleached the rock try were on and good as new:)
