Hi everyone,

I have been keeping my Tank at a constant 77.0 degrees. With the heat over the last 2 days, my tank is at 78.2. Should I be concerned by this? It A/C is not on, but windows in the house are open.

I wouldn’t worry , I’ve had my tank sit at 82 in the hottest days , never had a issue in 4 years

When you hit like 86 consistently and stays there the bells should be ringing. You have lots of play room. I read a articles where the author said that temp swings are good for Corals it can and will make them more robust.

Several people run their tanks at 80 with no issues. In nature the water temp rises by 5 degrees in the summer normally as well. They can not sustain a continual rise though. Say it peaks at 82 this year, then goes down to 79 over the winter, then up to 84 next summer, then 86 the next summer. That is what is happening in the dieing natural coral reefs.

The only side effect, and one of the reasons that people run cooler tanks is that it slows the metabolism of the fish and plants. It will slow growth, but also lowers the chance of some deceases

I think that @TORX was selling a chiller

My chiller is still available and actually was run on this exact tank. This was my old seahorse tank that he purchased.

Would this matter if it goes up from 77 to 79.8 during the day and back down, so swinging almost 3 degrees in a 24 hours period, everyday doing that? That is just with the heat we had on the last 2 days.

I do not see that as an issue. Many tanks chillers only work within 2-3 degrees. If they are set at 78 they dont turn on until 80 and turn off at 77

So, maybe should not worry about it until if it creeps up to 84+ ? I am hoping it doesn’t.
