So now that the storm has passed, it looks like alot of people are still without power in the GTA area, i didnt really realize how bad it is down that way since i've been so busy with christmas stuff here so i hope everyone made out ok with their tanks, has everyone active on here been accounted for and is everything good to go?

heres a few photos that caught my eye browsing the news sites.

Thankfully here in Windsor nothing but rain. I think it was in 1998 we had a bad ice storm that knocked out power for a few days. I was taking a break from reef keeping at the time as I had just built a house. But remember enjoying the time off work. It was so bad that once they started restoring power in the industrial section of windsor they got one phase working so there was lights but not enough power to run the machines. I was off work for a week.

We got it bad around kitchener. A lot of power outages across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph. My mom had no power for 12hrs the first day and 6 hrs the next. Even Stratford has power out for a long time. Luckily, here in New Hamburg (between kitchener and Stratford) we had no issues. Not even a blip. Lots and lots of downed trees and branches though. My one birch got hit hard. Probably will have to chop it down this spring.

We were very lucky where I am, only a few blips but no outages.  We just heard from Dave's uncle in Toronto and he has been without power for the last 3 days.  They aren't sure when it's coming back on but they weren't promised anything until Christmas Day!

I remember a bad ice storm when I was a kid and the ice was so thick we went ice skating on the snow around our property.  We had a few hills and it was a blast!  Kids can always make something fun out of the weather  :)

Flicked on and off at our house apparently, our house sitter had his hands full because the fridge quit but the tank is apparently just fine

They waited until last night to knock out our power for an hour or more.

I plan to hook a big motha UPS up to at least one return pump today.  It actually kept me awake last night worrying about the tank lol.

I ordered a Champion 7000w (continuous) generator from Costco.  Should be able to keep everything running on my systems as well as my furnace and fridge.

I think it was $899.

Some can, but they are quite costly to install.  I was looking at a 14kw generator...the entire installation with concrete pad was going to cost me about 10k.  (I only did get one quote)

Only the more expensive ones can be set up to come on automatically.  Mine is a portable 4000 watt. I have to hook up and start myself.  On sale for 350 dollars.

can these generators be set up so that they automatically go on when the power goes down? I would imagine so, just thinking out loud !
the standby ones that. are about 3000 or more are that ones that come on automatically ...  tye ones that are under 1000 yu have to start and gas it up and plug cords in

ouch ! that's a big price, but with it comes security of knowing no interruptions except for mechanical failure. I'm seriously thinking that a generator will be a wise investment for the future. Thanks guys !
