ok so i finally bit the bullet and decided its time for me to do my final and ultimate build. My 180 reef tank. my 55 has been going strong now for 8 or 9 months, i beat all algae, and coralline has tanken off like a mofo lol....but im bored of the tank and im out of room. SO HELLO 180!!! if the plan goes as follows, its gonna be built into my wall in the basement family room. Eventually turning the 55 into a sump/ref that i currently have now. So my question goes as follows......WHERE THE HELL DO I START?!!
Fishit, i know you recently did a change over to that gorgeous 110 of yours....maybe you can enlighten me? Do i set it up as a whole new tank with new sand and some rock and water and let it rock thru the whole cycle again waiting months to put everything in? Do i fill the tank up with new salt water and continue to do water changes on my 55 now and pour the syphoned water from the 55 into the 180 over time allowing the water to mix? How do i go about changing everything over quickly so i can turn the 55 into a sump? this is going to be a pain in the A$$ isn't it? ugh....any takers?

Re: starting up a 180

sorry buddy but that's a big jump what you will have to do is ..yes you have the first part right get your 180 exactly were you want it because once she is a quarter full that's it that's where it is staying lol .... get it plumbed and all ready to go other than your sump then yes start doing water changes to ure 50 gal and dump it in the 180 with a heater and power head along with the matched amount of new water. then you will have to get all the rock you need 180lbs +
- the rock you have o put your new sand in 2 but leave room for the sand from the 55 1lb of rock per gal or more this is because every time you ad a piece of live rock your tank it will cycle then in a probably a month switch the rest over fish sand rock.... and all the water from the 50 gal. then quickly build your sump a day or 2 your best to run a external filter well ure doing this if you have one to use..then your ok for a while set her up and off you go then you; need more water to fill the over flows and sump so have some ready .
after that your going to need a dehumidifier lol that's allot of water so good luck man  o you will need 2 heaters now maybe 3
