What causes these stupid coralife skimmers to overflow? I came home from work to the skimmer full.of water and my floor covered in water and my s SG that was at 1.026 is now 1.024, these stupid skimmers are nothing but problems.

Sounds like you are skimming too wet, set the skimmer a little dryer and then after it has been running for about 6 hours without putting anything in the water, ie, food, hands, corals, etc., set the skimmer again so the bubbles are breaking half way up the neck. The cleaner the water is the higher the bubbles will rise in the neck.

Its bullshit..its alrightnif its a big system and a in sump skimmer. Butbwhen its a snall systemnand a HOB skimmer, water everywhere and whackedout SG. And i think it mighta messed up my ATO somehow, not sure have it unplugged right now. Better not of, first my apex(kinda my fault had it alittle to close to the tank and the skimmer overflowed and was spitting onto the outlet.) A powerbar before that(thought i had it protected but something moved what was protecting it and got it wet) that tried to catch fire while i was sleeping., and now the ATO. Ive heard that these coralifes are notorious for overflowing.

My Vertex IN-180 did overflow few times so far. Salt deposits in the air path. Also I skim on the wet side. The skimmer is in the sump and it overflows in the sump. Not a big deal, but a few splashes.

I don't trust anything that you can't contain, You gotta put those skimmers in a sump, I know their meant to Hang on But where theres water, there will always be spills. Listen why don't you get that 180 going, get a proper steel stand for it and junk the other one, Get a nice big sump under there and stop giving your self these head aches. It's always one thing or another. I don't mean to be mean, It's just that theres an easier better way. Our tanks cause us enough stress, You should be enjoying the hobby not having all these problems. :) :) :)

Junkin the stand is not a option. I had my grandfather build this for me, sonit has some sentimental value. And i heard the steel stands start to rust and go to crap eventually.?

So keep the stand, Steel stand do rust like steel rust but it'll take years and so what you get some rust paint and touch it up. I'm trying to help you get this tank going, Just imagine a 180, Can you? Anyway what ever. I look forward to the build once you figure out what you are gonna do
