I am looking to upgrade my current skimmer but dont want to buy a second when i upgrade my tank. I will be going moderate to heavy sps. What is the rule of thumb for skimmer ratings. 2x tank volume??

I currently have a 75 gallon with 20 gallon sump. at some point i will be upgrading to around 120 ish. If i were to buy a skimmer rated at 200ish gallons would that be too much for my current tank and too little for future tank??

What would be a good skimmer to get without breaking the bank.  I have been doing some research and looking at a reef octopus skimmer

I have been thinking about upgrading my skimmer as well. Your water volume currently is less but after the upgrade will be more. My total is around 115. I like the super reef octopus cone skimmers. A little bit more money but the pumps are warrantied for 3 years and they are beauties. I looked at the swc but have read mixed reviews. I'm still lookin but am probaly gonna pull the trigger towards the end of the month

I used to have the NWB 150.  Great skimmer til the pump went for a shit.
The Sro line is much better. The bubble blaster pumps are sweet.

I have the same skimmer and have had it up and running since Nov of last year and love it! Works great!  :D

I've had it running for at least a year, haven't even cleaned the pump.  In contrast my bubble magus skimmer required at least a monthly disassemble and cleaning (reason I won't go with an internal pump again).

I may buy a second one for my new frag tank, can't beat the price!
