RODI Storage

Does anyone know what I can use to store filtered water from my RODI? I have a condensate pump that can handle the discharge no problem. I'm wondering if I could use a big garbage bucket (A new one of course :p). I'm just finding 1 1/2 hours for a 5 gallon bucket of clean water to take FAR to long to do a 15 gallon water change on my 55 gallon tank.

There's a lot of discussion on this... some plastic containers leech things into the water (like phosphates!).  You either have to verify that the storage container absolutely does not leech, or be safe and go with a food safe storage container.  Some guys have luck with brute garbage pails, but I am 99% sure there were people reporting problems with some of them a while back on Aquarium Pros.  I had a rubbermaid tub that leeched epic amounts of phophates into the water, so now I only use food safe ones.

I use a 20 gallon glass aquarium with a float valve to collect/store RODI. When full, I add salt and circulate it for 2-3 days prior water change.

I think sealife central had some storage containers for sale. Give them a call and see if they have any left.

Oh good call! It slipped my mind that I actually have a 20 gallon tank and stand downstairs in storage. I just pulled it out and set it up. I now have it filling with water and the discharge water flowing into my condensate pump = no hauling away water for me!

NSW is.... New Saltwater? If so, do I have to have it circulating/heated with liverock in it?

No no, just dump your salt in the rodi water and use a powerhead to mix the salt in , no liverock needed at all, as your making fresh, 'clean' saltwater for you tanks water changes

Yea nsw means new saltwater

I run the powerhead when I mix it in (usually 2 days before) and the heater ~8 hours before I put it in the tank (I dropped the tank 10 deg not too long ago because I forgot!)

Glass or Acrylic tanks are the best to use. I've found unless it's Lab Grade then it'll leach eventually, I have an Acrylic 20 GL tank for my ATO water and am looking for another for water changes. Mix and heat for 24 hours and it's ready to go
