I have minimal rock scaping in my display, so I have about half of my sump with live rock.
Have egg crate under it. Low flow. Covered in sponges etc.
Throw the odd hermit crab down there too.

Most of the rock is in my sump I also have chaeto and micro algeas growing in my sump that's why I have the light turn on opposite to the display tank it's also full of cocapods and rotifers and other critters living in it

I also have rock, chaeto, calupra and mangroves in my sump.
I have lights on opposite to the display tank as this keeps the PH balanced as well.
