So smart me decided to make some RODI water this morning. I have my unit right above the laundry sink with the waste line right in drain, I fill the 5L water jug bottles on the floor infront of sink, well I forgot to turn off before I went to work at 830... and I just got home at 530 :(. Luckily my basement is unfinished with a drain like 15 feet away on floor so there was just a trail of water instead of the whole floor. Still soaked a few mats, made some boxes mush...really not a big deal since I'm the first one home and cleaned it up.

What does everyone do to shut these things off? I know some have a float switch... But how does it work if there are no electronics?

I use the same method as you do lol.....have gone to bed and awoke to a wet floor.....I am currently converting over to a method where my ato will come right from the unit and controlled via 120v solenoid.....I will tee this line also to a bucket with valve and a mechanical float switch to shut it off.....have seen the electronic float switches too that open and close dry contacts but most solenoid valves are not designed for that long of continuous use.....and in the near future I will pump this rodi water into a mixing bucket beside.....from there I plan on doing automatic water changes....I will have three buckets beside each other.....rodi, nsw, old nsw.....I just have to stop being so lazy.....

I fill the containers in the laundry sink, the big plastic one.  I also set an egg timer to remind me.  Worst that can happen is I waste a lot of water....

Been there too!

Actually used to live on the 28th floor in a condo, and left for the night with my water running. Came home to find the building manager had been in, shut off the water and cleaned the mess due to a complaint from a tenant on the 27th floor :?

I am currently using an BRS auto shut-off and a float switch as a back up just in case I forget to turn the water off. It works really good!!

i do it constantly.  go to bed and forget.  wake up to a mess.
normally i have a float switch installed but it buggered up on me.  (my fault).  before that, i used a 45 gallon drum that i put a bulkhead for an overflow and ran a hose to the drain.

its important that if you go with some sort of float valve that u get that special valve that torx posted to shut off the waste water also, because its not going to stop if u just used a regular float valve in your RO container.
