Ro Water And The Cost.

So I'm getting close to setting up the biggest tank I have ever. I've always gotten jugs at the water Depot. Now I'm trying to convince my wife that buying a ro unit is the best option. It all comes down to price. I pay roughly $2 per cubic meter of water and $1.70 per cubic meter of sewer fee. So that mean say $4 per 264.172 gallons ( one cubic meter ).

The water Depot is 2.50 per 5 gallon jug.
Even if the ro unit was 4 waste to 1 good I would still get 52.8334 gallons of good water to waste.

From that I see roughly 50 gallons costing $1 more per a 5 gallon jug. This does not count wear and tear on the car and time to get the water etc.

So what is a good quality ro water filter system ? The tank is roughly 60 gallons plus say 25 below the tank. So 85 total. Any recommendations ?
If you have a ro system what is a realistic ratio ?

As far as I can see the water depot water should be costing you about 25$/50gal. While the ro is 4$/50gal.

It's easy to do. You just need to know your bill information.

As far as I can see the water deposit water should be costing you about 25$/50gal. While the ro is 4$/50gal.

Do you have a unit? If so what kind, Gpd and what is the rough ratio of pure water to waste water?

Is it all about the price? How about the convenience? And the confidence knowing that the water you make is free of TDS? I suggest getting their own RODI system to every new reefer!....

I have a BRS 6 stage unit I like it works well, I still debt with my self if the DI is necessary or not as I get 5 to 6 ppm out from the Membranes. If I had to buy a new one now I think I would get the following from Pets and Ponds.

Wish I could drop 530 on something but sadly there is a budget for everything. If I were to spend that much something else would take a hit. As for the price that is an issue and isn't. It's a hobby. It has to be affordable for some to maintain it as such. The jug from water depot was fine when I used 3 jugs a month as it was quick an easy.

I live in a 10 th floor apartment ....for the first 2 yrs I was getting water at kern water in Sarnia .it was 100 dollars for 40 jugs ..there is no room to install a Rodi in a apt in kitchen or both bathrooms ..so I had a idea to get one and use it in the shower stall. Got 2 hooks and just hang it on the shower stall hand rail and full 4 jugs up at a time that is every 2 weeks and put the unit away in a closet till I need it again ..now with a Rodi yu need to flush every time ..I got the vertex 100 good unit it has 2-1 ratio and auto flush with booster pump and digital meter so I just turn water on plug it in and let it go it does the flush and let water run till it shows 0 tds then put the hose in jug

A booater pump definitely helps. But when I first got my RODI I didn't use one and still got 0 TDS. If cost is an issue, I suggest getting a system without one, to start.
But getting a RODI system is an important part of long term success in this hobby.

A booster pump does not change the quality of the output. It will significantly improve the good water to waste water ratio.
