I haven't got the 135 in it's final location, so with buying the ro/di set-up, where do most of you have yours set up? and which unit do you prefer? keep in mind I no next to nothing abot these units so feel free to tell it all  ??? and then comes the auto top up. What unit to buy?  I am looking forward to that and not lugging jugs of water any more, but I'm thinking that some of this may not be able to be completed until the room for the tank is completed. Why did I set it up before having the room done, you may be wondering? I couldn't stand to see my pair of greenbird wrasse's stuck in the 65 and not enough swimming room when I had a 6 foot tank sitting there. Make sense? I can temporarily put them back into the 65 when I move the tank into it's final position. They're loving the length of the tank !The tank will be on the main floor of the house, I have toyed with setting up the sump in the basement but then the water has to be pumped up to the next level? any thoughts on this? extra running costs, pump failure?  Then comes placement of the ro/di unit and auto top up? thoughts? experiences?

place the rodi unit nearest to its water source, under your sink, your furnace room etc.
you can just run a hose to where ever it needs to be

I have mine in my utility room in the basement next to a 60 gl drum, I pump the water to my ATO drum that's behind my tank in my rec room. I also have another 60 gl drum that I pump to for water changes. When I turn my RO/DI unit on it runs all night to fill my 60 gl drum.

Where ever you place it, One thing to remember, It needs to be near a water source but it also needs to be near a drain.

thanks Jewel
the unit produces waste water when treating the tap water and converting to ro/di if I'm getting the gist of how the unit works, hence being near a drain. Do different units produce more or less waste water? I'm just curious, knowing very little about the units. When I spoke to the woman at the Water shop here in town, she really didn't know a lot about the units, but told me that most people go with the 4 stage unit vs 5 which the unit is that I saw on the link to the BRS site. Any preference anyone?

most units use 5 stage 3 pre filters  a ro membrane and a di resin yes they produce waste water some more some less  but usually a 3 to 1 ratio 3 being waste.

You'll find that people who aren't familiar with Salt water tanks will know very little about RO/DI systems, 5 stage is better than 4, When you talked to the store in Woodstock they aren't familiar with the DI part of it. I talked to her as well. The DI is your 5th stage and what it consists of is a Resin It's just another filter that's used to D- ionize the water and makes it pure.

You're best to talk to the people at Sealife Central in London, but call first cause I dropped by and nobody was there, I've heard that they are good people, I haven't met them yet but everyone on here seems to trust them. As I understand it's a Man and his wife that run it and you being a woman may be able to understand more from her. I'm not trying to patronize you at all its just that women trust women more, you know what I mean.  LOL

Hi Jewel and thanks for the input on the 5th stage of the ro/di, another learning curve.  I love sealife central, and Gary and Linda, I haven't met Ian, the new employee yet. I've only been there a couple of times. Gary and Linda actually gave me their cell phone number to reach them if they don't answer the store phone. If you're headed that way again and want to contact them I can pm the number to you. They're only a couple of minutes from the store. I hope to get to the store this weekend and bend Gary's ear about a bunch of things LOL poor guy !They're usually there from 12 til 5 or 6. These owners get what we people want. They started out as hobbyiests eek! sp? so they do understand where we're coming from which is nice.
Thanks for the chuckle about women trusting women - I'm here to learn, really, I know that I know very little, and I do appreciate every comment and tip I get, I'm getting the basics down and will continue to ask questions.  I am so happy to be part of this little world !
