they love pods to eat all day. they act like a manderin dragonet scouring the rocks and sand for food. I've seen manderins accept frozen food but never witnessed red scooter's eating prepared foods.

+1 They also eat flatworms like the red planaria.  That's actually why I got one but cute fish with lots of personality.
