Protein Skimmer

When should i begin to run my protein skimmer in my sump. My tank is newly started. Also the protein skimmer sits in the secodn of three areas in my sump is this correct

Protein skimmers generally run 24/7 from day one if you can.

Cool i can get it running the issue is i think its too deep as it over flows a lot

If it is sitting too deep, there will be too much water in the body. You would need a riser to adjust the height.I prefer (and some would say I am biased) plexi bases. Better flow under the skimmer, and way sturdier than eggcrate. Either way, you will need to elevate it to get it sitting right.Having said that, it is possible that it is going through its break in period. Which would cause them to be wonky.

Also it depends on what water you used and if you used any chemicals in the water. Depth is definitely a first check, but could also just be the skimmer adjustment or water. Will know more once we know what skimmer it is and the depth you have it n.

I bought an ROI unit and used nothing but took 4 days to fill the system but from what i hear its well worth it. Water was a touch cloudy at first but is crystal clear now

Yup, that only leaves water level and break in time. I am also assuming that since you purchased new, you thoroughly cleaned it aka vinegar bathed it, to get all the oils n other crap off it from the factory?

Grab up the specs of your skimmer and measure your depth, should be good once set

I didnt vinager clen it i cleaned it with fresh water tehn soaked it all and cleaned all the parts in fresh then salt water
