Planning out a new Display Build

Going to be going with a custom built tank I think.


Dimensions: 48"x24"x20-24"


Will be built into wall in basement, with sump/fragtank/whatever in fishroom behind.


Would like to get some quotes from some different builders, but have no idea what to even ask for.


I want to use an internal pump still for now, would love for it to be dead silent.


With this size tank what size holes should I have/where should they be drilled and what type of overflow.


Looking for all suggestions, external/internal...it will be in the wall only finished on the viewing side.

I haven't tried my 3/4" overflows yet, but 1" drains and 3/4" returns should be more than enough.
Any guy handy with a hammer should be able to build it into a wall, just make sure the girlfriend is okay with it all first

I would do an external overflow box.  1.5in bean.  That size will handle a barracuda pump at 4 ft if head no problem.

Yea tank will prob be around 5-6 feet from sump...but I would prefer using an internal pump...I am assuming the barracuda is an external?

Yup... Point is that you can't go wrong with plumbing that size.  Make your returns the same size as your pump outlet and all will work.  If you are going with a slower flow then 1 inch become possible.

Dont think I have the room. lll have to double check, and yes ill be using the 48" ATI

I have found the extra uncovered lighting space between the fixture and the end of the tank is ideal for less light demanding corals. It also provides nice lighting dimension in the DT.

Hopefully your skimmer can handle it too.

Yea I like the look of lower lighting on edges. If I got the room ill for sure inquire about a longer tank.

if yu get it built with holes drilled yu should ask for the biggest hole yu can get like 1 and half or 2 inch then yu can always get the size of bulkhead to fit that hole if yu want to use smaller plumbing ..yu can't drill bigger but can always use bulkheads
