So I borrowed a phosphorous tester (thanks reef hero!) and checked my tank.  It came up with between 0 and 1 parts per billion.  So I guess my other hanna phosphate checker was accurate at 0.00 for the past 6 months.

GFO and pellets seems to work, since I've really upped the feedings lately.

Just thought I'd post.

between 0 and 1 ? it only reads out single digit numbers.

I did 3 tests, two of them were 0 and one came out at 1.

You want something more accurate the 1 part per billion? That is 0.001 ppm isn't it? Can not get much more accurate then that for a home test I am assuming. Especially as most of us are happy with 0.08 or lower.

ahh, i see. thats crazy low, just wanted to be sure you werent mis-interpreting the results. so if you take your highest reading of 1 and x 3.066 / 1000 you get .0030 PPM P04.. thats a seriously low nutrient system.. even much lower than the .005 or so you normally see in natural sea water.

Just curious but what does everyone else get for readings with the Hanna Phosphorus Tester?

i got a reading of 9 last time i tested, so that equates to .027 PPM PO4

its close, but its actually testing for P15 (Phosphorus) so you need to do this conversion ( "X" x 3.066 / 1000) to get your P04 (Phosphate) reading.

Heh I'm not looking for anything more accurate, I was just wondering why my hanna -phosphate- checker, with a latent  inaccuracy of .03 ppm always, without fail was 0.00

I was wondering if my results with the phosphorous checker (.003) was typical.  As a rule, I change GFO every month, and I've run bio pellets for almost a year now.  I only recently upped the feedings, and everything seemed to react well.  I do get HA in the top of the overflow, where there is a ton of light/water/oxygen, but never in the tank.  Considering the mess the tank had been...I'm a bit surprised by the results (but pleased).
