Do you think you can over skim a tank? I have a 65 gl tank with a 35 gl sump, total water is approximately 70 gl of water, I have 100 lbs of rock and I am using a Vertex in 180 protein skimmer, theirs a lot of bubble being produced but not much skim mate,

When I got the skimmer, it was very clean. I know I'll have to wait till the skimmer get a bit greasy before the skim mate is produced. But in your honest opinion is this skimmer going to do a good job, there are a lot of bubbles.

i think, with an overly large skimmer, the skim is just spread thinner, like on the neck n stuff and what makes it in the cup looks like less cuz the cup is bigger, im thinkin that the larger skimmer is doing the same but doesnt look like it cuz of the spreading out of the skim... you would be wasting hydro would be the diff, dialing it in may be a bit more difficult as well.., i havnt done a comparison study , but thats what i think..

A skimmer is used to remove biological waste from a system that can not be removed via filters. You are using a skimmer that is rated for 100 gallons heavy stock and 180 gallons light stock. You state you are around 70 gallons and pretty sure all you have is 2 clowns and a damsel. There really isn't much to skim out at this point.

I personally would have stuck with the Reef Octoup nwb 110 for your tank.

Viewing on tapatalk, that info isn't shown. Looks like you are filling that tank quick and packing them in. Either way, give it time to work in and go from there.
