So I use the Salifert test kit right now and I find it difficult to distinguish one shade of pink vs. the next.

Any recommendations on testing kits for nitrates?

I like salifert.....if you are doing a hardcore sps tank then you should be seeing clear....no pink or red....whether you see 20 or 40 ppm of nitrate is still too much imo.....if you want something crazy then doesnt pinpoint make a real timedgital nitrate reader? Kinda pricey if i recall.....

When my tank was wonky I had red results, then I had pink for what seemed like ages, now it's been nothing but clear for a year.  Again, anything but 'undetectable' means things are in flux.  No balance yet.

I had a Red Sea nitrate pro for sale. Shake Shake ;)

Shake shake three different reagents and then wait 9 minutes for the colors to develop. Yeesh. Seems like a lot of work.

Dammit Hanna! Come on out with your nitrate checker already. I want something easy to use with decent accuracy.

Salifert are great, you can do the low range view from the side and divide by 10.

nobody will pay it.  I haven't checked nitrates for almost a year.  Only if I start having problems, otherwise, nitrates are fine.  Again, same reason I wouldn't start dumping live bacteria into the tank.

I read on RC that poo acts as fertilizer for corals.... Guess not...

I think you should come buy the Red Sea nitrate kit. And just shake this weekend away :)
