I built an overflow at one point by running a rectangle of pipe around the surface of the water hidden by the rim of the tank with regular saw cuts in the pipe. Kind of a similar idea but I wasn't using it for a full sump system so I can't say how it would have worked out for noise.

Not sure it would be "silent" but it would be quiet, as long as you aren't running huge gph through it.

Looks like injection moulded item. Pricing shouldn't be too bad... Looks like abs. Hopefully decent quality abs.

i want to make a 2"x3"x length of tank box along the back of my tank hooked to my j pipe and overflow box it will make for good surface skimming and to quiet it i use an overated overflow box extend the one standpipe a tad higher for emerg and valve the other from below to make it quiet im stuck with tempered on the 90 so zipping a hole is out the question
