Hey guys in the process of a 55 rebuild at some point while the tank has been sitting bugs (earwigs) go into my tank not a lot like 12 debating on rinsing and using a filter sock on my simp with lots of flow to stir the sand to clean and then rinse via several water changes. Or I am thinking of removing all the sand and replacing with Fiji pink sand. Is Fiji really all that nice compared to normal fine grain reef sand???

Ok what can I use to sift if I don't have any door screen kicking around? Could I make something cheap to sift with?

I find the best way to clean sand is to put a small amount of sand in a bucket and put a garden hose in the bucket and rinse rinse rinse. Then empty it out and start over. In order to get all the crap out of it it takes a ton of work. I re-use sand all the time; but it takes elbow grease! If you can't do a thorough cleaning then I would buy new. You will be amazed at what rises to the top of the bucket lol

Chef. Sure that works. Just use a little ( maybe 1/4 bucket full) of sand so there is lots of watter for the crap to rise in the watter column of the bucket
