Just a little story...true...sad...with happy ending and of course a ?
Today, I venture out with the kids to do regular Sunday chores. I wanted to go frag hunting since I have had my tank setup for over a month. It's early in the day, and once we get motoring, we collectively decide (read as: kids don't want to be out all day driving and hammer me to go home early) to go home. Turns out that their sick sense...or is it sixth..doesn't really matter, is well founded. We get home, say hi to Sam the Shrimp, Juliette...but we can't find Gnomeo anywhere in the tank. Since the family has been through this before (exactly a week ago), I start looking and looking for him. Can't find him on the floor, under the stand, thought maybe the dog got him. Finally, I look in between my kids shoes and there he is, lying there. I grab him, and he still has a little kick in him...a little...he's in my hands, not really moving much, and I hold him in the tank covered in water. A little more kick, so I figure, that if I put him back in the tank, she'll kill him as he doesn't have much fight in him. Although I know that I should take my time acclimating him to the frag tank, there really isn't much time. I grab the net and float him in it. Obviously still as a lot of life in 'im since he starts freaking out! I let him float in the net a little longer, helping him remain upright, when he finally hovers on his own. I let him out of the net and he slowly sinks to the bottom and finds a small hole between 2 rocks to rest. I monitor for him a little longer while the kids are giving Juliet proper "hell". Both kids vote that Juliet should be banished to a can full of water or sold (remember this is the second time she has driven a fish out of the tank...literally). Rushed to get my new/old skimmer cleaned up so that I could ensure a clean environment, and as I am typing this, the clown seems to be doing well..time will tell.

Thus, Juliet has been appropriately names the "Black Widow". I know that by tomorrow there will be a coup d'etat and I may find the Black Widow floating in the toilet when I come home tomorrow :)

Question: If I buy a larger clown than her, would she still push it over the edge? I am getting a tank cooler as I find that with the glass top on the tank gets very warm and of course the PH increases. Or should I remove her completely and swap the 2?

I had a clown; still have her, she has killed a smaller male clown, sent a royal gramma into hiding and probably COD was starvation, and I had a coral beauty that either got/died from ich from a questionable store or she made the ich worse and it died from ich because they were both in the same QT tank.... So far my clownfish; she is 3:0 for tank mates.

Alas, no. Only when it's time for feeding. Believe it or not the little guy who ate well tonight, is swimming around his own tank now...however I do usually root for the underdog :)

So mean bigger clown in display, smaller clown in frag tank system?

If you ever do want to try these 2 together again, I would be tempted to swap who's in what tank, unless you plan to try the pair in your frag tank. Reason I say this if the smaller clown is left in display (not sure of its current condition) it could establish it as it's home kinda thing, and then when and if you did try to add the other larger clown at some point down the road it would be the new one in the tank.

Rule of thumb people try to follow is most aggressive fish into the tank last.

But clowns are tricky in that the larger one (female usually) can and will kick the crap out of the smaller one to almost near death just to see if it's good enough. I've seen them chase, nip, pile drive into corals...to only later have a pair that sticks together.

I may just try and move her over and him back in the DT. He's a little skitterish with having the crap scared out if him. He ate well last night and I will let him hang in the Frag tank till he is less scared. Maybe on the weekend I will swap them out. Can you buy a clown "shock collar" for trading purposes?

It's difficult to know what to do, Sell the bigger one and buy another. It's really tough. nature can be very mean, I think I would swap them and get another one for the little guy and keep her in the Frag Tank, it's always good to keep fish in a Frag Tank.
