Monti Cap growth pattern

Hi everyone,

My monti cap has grown out about an inch on all sides since July, but now it seems to want to grow straight up in little fingers.
I'd rather it grow outward.  Is there something i can do with flow or lighting that would influence how it grows?

Thanks

Looks very nice Kevin! Montis can take different shapes IME....most seem to grow out in a nice smooth plate shape but others will develop raised spots or edges....IMO this does not really appear to be a capricornis or capitata monti.....is it encrusting at all?
Yours looks very good....where did you get it?

Changes in flow patterns can cause different growth shapes I thought when it came to Monti caps.

Perhaps you just have different flow rates compared to who you got the piece from?

I got it from bill at IA.  He said it was monti cap. It definitely encrusts. There is a half inch wad of epoxy underneath it in that pic that it has encrusted over.  I had it sitting in another spot for a very short time and it encrusted about 1 mm by  25mm.  That little piece broke off when I moved it and has encrusted out over an inch and started extending 2 plates.  Once it is a little bigger I am going to put pieces in between my rocks to cement them together.

I bought a red monti from IA about 3 months ago too. This is what mine looks like after growth (it's growing straight out with a bit of a curl...)

A little update:

When the "comb teeth" developed, I had let my calcium slip to like 360-370 I think.  I corrected the problem and since then it has grown outward again.
It has also encrusted over some vermatid snails at the top.  They still send out their webbing.

Those teeth are a pain in the ass though.  they catch a lot of detritus.
