Silly question, which end is the bottom and which is the top of this mangrove? I was assuming the end with the stem growing is the root but wasn’t sure as most of what I read says the “pointed end” is up and the blunt, rounded end is the bottom. This is my first attempt to grow one so advice is welcome, starting with which end is up lol....Thx!

I think it's the root that gives you it's goodness, I put them in sand in a container, I heard of guy who puts them in his overflow, gotta try that.

Thanks for the comments, I’m just trying this one first to see how it goes. Do people just put these young propagule in tank water or is it best to get the root established in fresh water and then move them to salt? I’ve read comments on both methods but not clear of the best way to get them started.

I'm not sure, I've bought them with a root ball so I couldn't say, their definitely has to be a best way. I'll have to enquire about that here, their are lots of knowledgeable people here,

The brown section is the bottom, root will eventually grow, white. But your mangrove is like the one i use, more compact.

Thanks, excellent read as suggested http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-12/ac/feature/index.php It seems like the one I have in the picture above is a White Mangrove with the more popular one used in aquaria being the Red variety. I got the White from Under the Sea and Shawn mentioned it was a different kind. He also had some Red so I’m starting one of those also. Both are budding so it seems I have the right end up for both lol :)
