Looking for input on a new reactor that'l be plumbed from my main return. Needs to hold about 1000ml of media. Hoping to purchase today. Have a new phosban 150 coming but don' believe it'l be large enough. Thanks for any input

You are right, a modded 150 will not be enough. A modded 550 works, but is very loud and needs a high flow through rate to keep things tumbling. When I used a 550 I wrapped it with a towel to damped the sound. The 550 had a concave bottom which works a lot better for Bio pellets then the 150. For that much volume, I suggest a recirculating reactor like the Reef Octopus 120R you will need a lot of flow through for that much media. That much flow will not allow the bacteria time in the chamber. A recirculating reactor lowers the through time but keeps the pellets moving to avoid clumping and clogging. I recently went back to pellets and love my 120r. Easy to maintain and pellets stay in motion even when my return is off. I just use a mj600 as a feed pump for it.

If you decide to save a few bucks, do 2 tlf150's with 500ml pellets in each. Much quieter and let me know, I think I have one in my attic already modded. Still not my recommendation, but another option as it worked for me on my 125 long.

I thought of that but was thinking of one unit. Just wanted input on others. Looking at aquamaxx but hoped for real use recommendation

i use the vertex media reactor, I just removed the foam and put in some plastic screen I picked up at a sewing store, or michaels or something. Works great, takes a full bag of pellets, but I did have to put a beefy pump on it (I think it's a small mag drive or something like that) as the little circ pumps I use on my phosban reactors wouldn't move the media.
